General Information
The effect of the U.B.M. KOTASIŃSKA product development strategy is a design project Multifunctional FoZa Multi treatment chair.
General design assumptions
Multifunctional treatment chair designed as:
- armchair for blood donation and blood therapy stations,
- dialysis chair,
- chemotherapy chair,
- surgery chair for surgery one day,
- surgical chair for patient examinations,
The design of the treatment chair is made of steel profiles and pipes covered with powder varnish, resistant to UV radiation, mechanical damage and disinfecting and cleaning agents. The treatment chair has the function of height adjustment of the seat assembly, which is carried out by means of an electric column, regulation of the inclination angle of the backrest segment, regulation of the inclination angle of the seat segment, regulation of the inclination angle of the lower leg segment integrated with the seat segment by means of electric actuators (electric drives). Shank segment with an adjustable footrest realized by a gas spring. The chair has armrests fully integrated with the backrest segment, which after the patient releases the lever have the function of: adjusting the angle of inclination, adjusting the angle of the armrest’s angle with respect to its axis. Armrests that bend back to the backrest segment to help the patient take the chair position. The chassis of the seat equipped with a chassis with individual blockade of all wheels. Seat segments, backrest segment, shank segment, adjustable footrest and seamless upholstered armrests. The seat base, backrest segment, seat segment, footrest and armrests with covers made of ABS plastic. Height adjustment of the chair and angles of the chair segments are carried out electrically and mechanically. The chair has controlled with a wired remote control.
The scope of completed design work
Scope of work on the design project – included development of a product development strategy implemented in 2014 and a design study of the product being an extension of the FoZa treatment chair family – implemented in 2015. The full technical documentation and technical file (instruction manual for the product and documents necessary for registration of the medical device) were made. All the design work and author’s supervision over the implementation of the product for production was carried out by the WÓJCIK DESIGN team. The chair was launched on the market in the first half of 2016.
Innovation of the applied design solutions
Innovation of the design of the FoZa Multi treatment chair stems from the development of a structure that ensures the possibility of widespread use of the chair in medical facilities.
Universal knots for mounting the top and drip hanger were designed both on the right and on the left side of the chair.
On the cover, on the back of the backrest segment, there is a basket for the patient’s items (no such solution in the products of the competition), the introduction of which improved the functionality and ergonomics of the product.
The design effect achieved
The implementation of the design of the FoZa Multi treatment chair on the market has expanded the offer of U.B.M. KOTASIŃSKA for a top-class product in its class (electric height adjustment and angle of inclination of the lumber segments).
The introduction of new, more technologically advanced products strengthened the company’s competitiveness in the market of medical equipment.
In chair design , widely understood material unification was applied. Where possible, the same parts and components were used, which has an impact on the optimization of production costs.
Multifunctional treatment chair FoZa Multi is designed for long-term dialysis, chemotherapy and hematology. Thanks to its functionality and additional equipment, it ensures high comfort both for the patient’s stay and the work of the staff.
Universal treatment armchairs: FoZa Basic, FoZa Basic Plus, FoZa Don, FoZa Mobil, Foza Multi were created in the mind of widely understood design thinking. The resulting products that, through the care of ergonomics , are designed to serve users well, thus ensuring their success for the manufacturer.
