General Information
The introduction of new, more technologically advanced products (hospital beds) strengthened the competitiveness U.B.M. Kotasińska on the medical equipment market.
A decision was made to start work on subsequent projects.
General design assumptions
The treatment chair is intended for all basic patient examinations, such as blood collection, dialysis, ophthalmic and laryngological procedures. It can be used as medical equipment: clinics, clinics, hospitals, care and treatment centers and laboratories.
The design of the chair made of steel profiles and pipes, covered with powder varnish, resistant to UV radiation, mechanical damage and disinfecting and cleaning agents. Segments of the seat, backrest and lower leg are upholstered.
The backrest segment has a cover made of ABS plastic. Adjusting the angle of the back and lower leg segments (FoZa Basic Plus) realized with gas springs by releasing the appropriate lever.
The priority of the product design project was to follow the principles of sustainability by limiting the use of plastics and “costly” materials for the natural environment.
The use of appropriate stylistic means is to create a product that stands out among the products in its class, and to build / strengthen the brand of the company being aware of the importance of industrial design .
The scope of completed design work
In the scope of work on the project – the FoZa Basic treatment chair – there was a development of the product development strategy (implemented in 2014), a design development of the product in two versions (the basic version and the version with the shank segment) completed in 2015.
The full technical documentation and technical file were made (product operating instructions and documents necessary to register the medical device). All thedesign work and author’s supervision over theimplementation of the product for production was carried out by the WÓJCIK DESIGN team. The chair was launched on the market in the first half of 2016.
Innovation of the applied design solutions
The innovation in the design of the treatment chair design results from the development of such a construction that will give the opportunity to create versions that differ in functionality but are stylistically coherent.
In the economic version, the product will fulfill the basic functions of the chair for the blood collection points. The trendelenburg function implemented as a standard with the help of a gas spring will be an innovation in this group of products. Additional options: headrest, integrated pad (with the possibility of mounting at the customer’s right or left side of the chair .
Foot support / shank segment with regulation performed on a gas spring (FoZa Basic Plus version) was developed as a module, mounted in a simple way to the chair (the customer can increase the functionality of the FoZa Basic chair).
The design effect achieved
The design that has been created has become a platform for the emergence of further design projects of treatment chairs for use in pediatric, Laryngology and ophthalmology offices, as well as for emergency rooms in hospitals, etc.
