“SEGO” medical couch

General Information

It was the first project implemented for the Stolter company. Cooperation between companies began with an analysis in the field of industrial design (design audit),
which resulted in the development of product development strategies.

General design assumptions

Stationary medical couch with the option of expanding by:

mobile,
with the possibility of assembly at the customer’s,
with the cupboard under the bed in the soccer section,
with a shelf under the bed.

The bedside table is intended for treatment and medical rooms. It can act as a couch or treatment table. It should enable patients to take the correct position for effective and safe surgery. The construction of the couch should allow easy and possibly full access to the patient.
Potential clients are both public health care facilities and private offices.
Women make up the majority in medical professions, which is why ergonomics and stylistics of the designed product are taken into account.
Medical personnel because of their profession are people who know how work affects our health. Product design should be characterized by care for ergonomics for all users of the device.
Due to the fact that we buy “through the eyes” to a large extent, the original product design can influence the client’s decision.
The materials used should be publicly available, known and not posing a direct threat to the service and the patient.

Product solutions offered on the market

It is difficult to identify solutions that stand out in terms of industrial design – design. The majority of products are made of bent steel profiles reinforced with brackets / crossbars. Adjustment of the inclination angle of the headrest is most often done by means of a support block locked in toothed bars.

The scope of completed design work

The scope of work included cooperation in the development of a product development strategy , designing the product, development of full technical documentation by the WÓJCIK DESIGN construction team, author’s supervision over the implementation of the product for production.

Implemented design solutions

In the design of the medical couch, we managed to obtain an innovative product with a simple but durable construction. The limitation of the structural elements ensures easy cleaning and disinfection. An additional plus of the design is simple technological equipment and easy assembly. The regulation of the headrest eliminated the production of its own mechanism, for the benefit of commercial rastomats, which reduced the cost of manufacturing the product.

The applied stylistic measures ensured the creation of a product that stands out among the products of its class. The “SEGO” medical box was launched on the market in 2012, and the effect achieved in the design assumptions resulted in the decision to start new projects:
