Design of a dental unit controlled by a touch screen.

The scope of tasks included:

design work:

• development of a unit design project,
• functional interface design (UX),
• graphical interface (UI) design.

implementation works:

• development of documentation of molds for covers for the spittoon block and the chair (CAD),
• development of individual interface screens (Corel Draw),
• supervision over implementation into production.

Problems to solve.

In the dental units offered on the market, membrane keyboards were used to control the functions of the device, the functionality of which was limited by the usable surface.

The introduction of an interface on a touch screen in this class of medical devices improves the ergonomics of control and gives the opportunity to increase the number of tools on the doctor’s table and on the assistant’s table (in the case of four-handed work).

Solution

The customer buys a unit in a configuration specified by him. The products sold differ in the number of tools placed on the doctor’s table and, optionally, on the assistant’s table. This resulted in an expensive need to design and order different versions of membrane keypads for different models of dental units.

The membrane keyboard has limitations in terms of ergonomics, it is not very intuitive. In addition, it is necessary to develop a complicated user manual.

The use of a touch screen gives you more possibilities. The touch screen gives the opportunity to fully convey information with images that can recreate reality in accordance with the second principle of Nielsen’s heuristics.
