The effect of the U.B.M. KOTASIŃSKA is a design project of cabinets at the bed LoKa – 01 models: LoKa Classic and LoKa Classic Plus. The designed products extend the range of hospital equipment for patient rooms – hospital beds: LP, LR – “WERSA”, LoRe and LoPi.
General design assumptions
Description of the designed products:
The cabinet is made of profiles and steel sheets covered with powder varnish, resistant to UV radiation, mechanical damage and disinfecting and cleaning agents. The chassis of the cabinet is equipped with a chassis with individual locking of 2 front wheels. The main worktop and side top (Loka Classic Plus), fronts of the drawers and the door are made of HPL. Side covers, drawer inserts and a shoe basket are made of ABS plastic. The height adjustment of the top is carried out by means of a gas spring.
The cabinet can be made in one of four versions:
- with one top drawer,
- with one top drawer and a side top,
- with two drawers,
- with two drawers and a side top.
The bedside cabinet LoKa is intended for use by patients in hospitals during the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of diseases.
The bedside cabinet LoKa is used in the following environments (areas) of treatment:
- long-term care, hospital departments where medical supervision is required and monitoring is provided if necessary.
- care and Treatment Facilities.
The priority of the product design project was to follow the principles of sustainability by limiting the use of plastics and “costly” materials for the natural environment. The use of appropriate stylistic means is to create a product that stands out among the products in its class, and to build / strengthen the brand of the company being aware of the importance of industrial design.
The scope of completed design work
The scope of work on the design project – included the development of a product development strategy – implemented in 2014 and the design study of a product that is an extension of hospital equipment for patient rooms – completed in 2015.
The full technical documentation and technical file (instruction manual for the product and documents necessary for registration of the medical device) were made. All the design work and author’s supervision over the implementation of the product for production was carried out by the WÓJCIK DESIGN design team. The cabinet was launched on the market in the first half of 2017.
Innovation of the applied design solutions
Theinnovativeness of the design of the cabinet at the bedside LoKa results from the development of a construction that ensures the possibility of a wide use of the product in medical facilities.
A universal construction was designed to allow the development of different from the functional and stylistic aspect. On the basis of the created structure, it is possible to develop further products that are hospital equipment (prams, assistants).
The design effect achieved
The implementation of the design of the bedside cabinet LoKa on the market has expanded the offer of U.B.M. KOTASIŃSKA for a top shelf product in its class.
The introduction of new, more technologically advanced products strengthened the company’s competitiveness in the market of medical equipment.
The cabinet design uses a broadly understood material unification with previously designed products. Where possible, the same parts and components were used, which has an impact on the optimization of production costs.
Bedside cabinet LoKa through its functionality and additional equipment ensures high comfort both patient stay and the work of staff.
All versions of the LoKa cupboards were created in the mind of broadly understood design thinking.The resulting products that, through the care of ergonomics, are designed to serve the users well, thus ensuring their success for the manufacturer.
